T-Minus 7 Days

For those who didn’t already know, I will be having surgery on my right hip on January 4th, one week from today. The procedure is called a Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO).The doctors will cut my pelvic bone and reposition it using about 3 screws. This video explains everything pretty well. I’ve been experiencing hip pain since the summer of 2015. Sevenย different doctors and what seemed like a million appointments later, I was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia. Basically, my hip socket isn’t in the correct position to fully support my leg.

It will be a long road to recovery and naturally I’m pretty nervous. Luckily, I’m seeing one of the best hip specialist in the nation and I have an incredible support system. My doctor made it clear to me that the pain will get far worse before it begins to get better, but I am excited to get this chapter of my life out of the way.

Over the past few months, I have done a lot of research about this surgery. I’ve come across several PAO patients that have shared their stories, and they have inspired me to share mine. For the next year or so, I’m going to share everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
